Using Technology in the Library
I like Robin’s idea of using the Flickr map feature with our third grade local history curriculum. Maybe Chad or Denise would consider having their students create a podcast for their historical item, and we could coordinate this with a Flickr map of Piedmont. We have collected a lot of resources on Piedmont history, but they aren’t particularly child-friendly…
I also like Randi’s suggestion that we videotape students booktalking their latest read and running it continuously on one of the library computer stations. I think this would make a fun book report project to do over the course of the school year with each of the fifth grade classes, maybe starting with Katy…
And since there is no computer lab at Havens Jr., Val might like taking on these activities in the classroom…
I think Mappr will be fun, too, Barbara. Maybe we can come up with some fun ideas for Havens Jr. That is, if we can borrow those laptops sometimes, as our library will be wanting in the technology department next year.
I’m afraid we are going to have to rethink a lot of our program next year. After spending just a few days in the space, I think we should forget about having parent volunteers (how will they fit), birthday adopt-a-books, etc.
